Binoy Mascarenhas is the Head of Integrated Transport at WRI India. He leads India’s road safety program, and also manages the integrated transport program in Mumbai.
Over 8 years at WRI India, Binoy has led a number of road safety initiatives across India and South-East Asia, (Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia), under the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety. This includes projects on safer street and intersection design, road safety audits and inspections, transit infrastructure design, road safety policy and capacity development. Binoy helped facilitate the signing of an MoU between WRI India and the Govt. of Maharashtra to support the development of a road safety action plan for the state. Binoy has also worked on many urban transport initiatives, including projects in Bus Rapid Transit, Public Bicycle Sharing, public transit planning and community engagement. He helped launch Equal Streets, which is Mumbai’s first and largest, weekly, car-free day.
Binoy has over 11 years of work experience in urban transport, road safety, project development and business analytics. He has previously worked with IL&FS IDC in Mumbai and Genpact, (formerly GE Capital) in the United States and Hyderabad. He holds a Masters in Technology Degree in Urban-Regional Planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad; and a Masters Degree in Economics from Gokhale Institute, Pune. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
