Auro Shashwat is part of the Energy program working on energy access projects, looking at the un-met and under-met energy needs of service delivery organisations across sectors and helping them find solutions to meet this demand.
Prior to WRI, he was involved in biodiversity conservation and renewable energy projects. He has worked on solar-powered water pumping projects in rural Jharkhand and Odisha. These projects were a step towards achieving UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, and India’s Swachh Bharat Mission. He was also involved in developing a GEF-funded UNDP India project on conserving Snow Leopards and securing the livelihoods of local communities in the Indian Himalayas.
He holds an M.Sc. in Ecological Consultancy from Newcastle University, UK.
He has a keen interest in sustainable agriculture and is a certified Aquaponics Design Consultant from the Aquaponics Institute, Australia. Lastly, he is a wildlife enthusiast and an avid aquarist.
